after wrecking to many bearings it was getting to costly so i had a good look at the design of the bearing and its crap there is no seal so protect the bearing in the first place from water and mud. it only has its own seal to protect it wich is more just a dust seal! so after a good grump i made up a peice with a extra seal to protect the bearing and if you do alot of 4wding in water i would do this next time you need to change your bearing!

HI, that looks interesting but its not 100% clear to me what you have done. I would be more than happy to take the pictures and create a "How to.." if you want to send them to me along with a breakdown of what you did.

sounds interesting but im also unsure to what you have done.
i can see you have welded a bit of steel tube to the back plate but its not clear what else you have done i presume you have fitted a seal into the tube ????

This is of great interest to me at the moment but I can't work out what you've done. I didn't think there was space for anything between the shaft flange and bearing retainer or I'd have been asking my fabricator mate to set to it already. He had already suggested researching into a bearing of the same size but with a seal. You can get bearings in the same size but without the spacer and the spacer separately. Maybe a trip to the bearing supplier might be more fruitful. I've just stocked up from Martin though!

yea i have had trouble getting the pictures all up which explain it best but yes there is just enough room on the shaft to allow you to fit a extra seal to the outside of the the backing plate. so what you have to do is lathe up a peice of steel pipe to take a 35 45 oil seal and fit over the lip on the backing plate, weld that onto the backing plate and fit the seal. put onto the shaft and then press on your new bearing and retainer, once this is done you have to seal the backing plate on and if you have abs also make sure you seal the sensor in to, there is no way of water getting into the bearing now. it would have to ither pass through 2 seals from the outside or come in through the diff oil.
i will try add some pictures soon and a drawing.
