4x4 not engaging properly ? was created by bertbuckie
Just a quicky ( I hope ) my 4x4 doesnt seem to engage unless Im moving.... it worked fine before I bought it however twice now Ive had to be moving to engage it.
What could cause this and how could it be rectified ?

Also just noticed, when you go to turn it on after leaving it in 4x4 the light flashes. It feels different to drive when in 4x4 after changing whilst moving tho...

Ok after reaserching a little I see problems with the vacuum being common...however it slips easily into gear and doesnt seem to be effected whilst moving.
Very tempted after reading a few articles to go for manual hubs if this isnt an easy fix.

Sorry for my incompetance.... but if I bought these...
cgi.ebay.co.uk/SUZUKI-SJ-SAMURAI-VITARA-...&hash=item255fbb95b9
and fitted them with the spacer kit available here, could I leave them locked and drive in 2wd and when I selected 4wd it would just slip in the same as before?
Also, do I need to remove all the vacuum system?

Do you have push button selection ? Mine does this from time to time and has the push button; the light flashes and it doesn't change. Guessing it's not a biggy as its in the handbook, just advises to move forward at a low speed while selecting. There's then an almighty crunch and it works fine, seems to go through little fits of it then doesnt do it for ages.

aha....the wife finally returned from baby club..... I had a look, vacume pipe going into the little blue thing just next to the engine was snapped ( well 50% through )
Sparky tapped it as a tep measure and a test....works perfect again :D
its not a button SPC, gear lever :)
Was probably like that when I got it I just was lucky when I tried it.... and it must have just been coinsidence when I was moving...or higher revs producing more vacuum or something :)

Thanks martin for the how to section!
