Hi all new to this group and recent jimny owner (which is a crackin little vehicle)
since last week a horrible smell (fishy) has developed overnite so to speak
has anyone else had this problem ,if so what was the problem
could it be the Cat Converter ?? would appreciate any advice please ....:unsure:

I have not had this happen to me but I have heard that this is what happens when the cat converter is dying.

The other areas to look at are underneath the carpets for water ingress.

BTW you need to be careful about diagnosing the smell. Apparantly "rotten eggs" smell is OK but you are "overfueling" - too much unburnt fuel entering the cat

Hi many thanks for your response no dampness at all and no smell of fuel just a very bad fishy smell and it's worse with the blower on ...

Hi there,

I've bought a Jimny with no aircon and without too many toys on purpose so I'm not that knowledgable about what things some of the newer higher spec'd models have, but if you hav such a model and it has a polln filter, sometimes if they get water in them a fungus grows as it's warmed with air from the engine and they can small nasty and it gets blown through with the blower.

Otherwise the aircon it's self if known on all cars to create smells if not used regularly, like over winter and then used like now when the weather gets nicer.

I don;t know if they would be a fishy smell.

You hven't got a joker of a friend who's put an old fish on your manifold have you???
