Question for the towing with a gen4 crowd

Thanks all for your input. Seems that i need to shim a kingpin which is not going to help. I've also just heard something give a loud report from the tow bar area with the single on the back so I'm going to give everything a spanner check and also confirm that the coupling height is where I set it in case something has moved. Having had opportunity at the weekend to rock a couple of brand new jimny I'm not convinced mine is actually any worse and even a newer one with gucci dampers didn't seem hugely better but I don't know how it was adjusted it probably wasn't set for road more rocks i suspect. My other option is to go back to the gen3 for longer road trailer work, it might be slower but it is stable when it finally winds itself up.

Well there's a thing. It would appear that using most of the red loctite on the captive nuts on the cross bars of my tow bar was not enough. They were not tight and appear to have allowed the assembly to rotate downwards by maybe 10mm at the centre of the towball. This could well account the speed wobble. Seems that a once every 3 months spanner check is in order, and yet not one of the other bars on other cars have ever done something like this. Hmmm.

False hope. Yes it's definitely less violent but it still doesn't follow properly. Or more accurately a deviation in the road surface is enough to unsettle the car which is then amplified down the combination and very quickly gets the whole thing into a tank slapper. So I think it's time to look at upgrading the dampers and maybe a 30mm anti roll bar.
