Which valve stems are you replacing? Tyre valve stems or engine valve stem seals?

Sure they are broken?
If the engine puffs blue smoke after descending hills and using low gear, and your compression test is fine then it could be the valve stem seals.
Actually I am not sure if it is worth it.. Mine are broken on my M16 engine and the compression is fine. No smoke from normal driving, just when going down steep mountain passes. (very steep!)
Even though I can do it myself I am still considering to replace the engine.
if you have a M13 or G13 engine I would swap the engine for a 1,6. I have no idea how costly this is in the UK though.
