That SJ did do well in that episode and from memory it only had 3 or 2 wheel drive for some reason . The only real problem it had was after it went swimming in too deep water which got water/dirt into the fuel system and then the alternator died probably because of its dunking. I think the transfer box had also given up towards the end of the trip but it still made it. It was funny when the other guys modded their trucks which lead to them being even worse on the road but James left the suzuki standard so it actually turned out to be better on the road.

From memory, I recall being intensely annoyed by Sir James' pretend ineptitude there. Hammond originally declared it only had 3 wheel drive, which is impossible unless he welded up the front diff and pulled a half shaft (or unlocked a hub...). Most likely Sir James either couldn't be bothered moving the transfer lever or didn't lock one or both hubs. (Or someone else unlocked one and knew it was 3WD...)

Clearly it did have working 4WD or he wouldn't have driven down that slope, Hammond had to stage an Ice Cold in Alex "accident" because he'd never have got down it the right way up with only the front axle driving.

A shock absorber comes off at one point too, the lower mount came undone,.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

Of all their adventures the Bolivia special is by some margin my favourite. Every time I watch it I can't help but think of doing it in my jimny, properly maintained and gently prepared and just enjoying the trip without the TV drama. I also like to think that temeraire and I would be fit enough to make it over the volcano instead of having to go the long way round.

Temeraire (2018 quasar grey automatic)
Pavement princess or back road menace?
Bellerophon (2024 grello van daily)
ADORJ Attention Deficit Ooooh Race Jimny!
