Battery not charging

Battery not charging was created by gillett02
Hi, I have tried to find if anyone else has posted about this but I can't seem to find any solutions.
Initially my battery wasn't charging and diagnosed it down to a faulty alternator. As such I changed this to a higher amp version, this initially fixed the problem and it was charging.
Then I was having issues with the battery holding its charge, I replaced this as it was fairly old anyway. Again this was fine temporarily and it was charging.
The battery light was on during all of this but it was still charging so didn't really see an issue with it.
Now it seems that the battery is not charging whilst the engine is on. When I put the voltmeter on whist the engine is on its sits at around 11.7v and slowly drops overtime.
I have checked and cleaned all the grounds to the body and even did a temporary earth from the battery to the engine block to see if that was the issue but nothing changed.
I have completely disconnected the alternator and just spun it with a multimeter on and the voltage does go up slightly.
I have also tried the connecters on the back on the alternator when the ignition is on and that shows voltage when on and doesn't when the ignition is off.
I have put the multimeter directly to the alternator whilst the engine is on and this is also showing around 11.7 volts, the same as the battery. The fuse from the alternator to the battery is not blown either.
I think I have tried everything I can think of as to why it's not charging but I'm just at a bit of a loss at this point so was wondering if anyone has any suggestions.
Cheers,
Adam

Suggests to me that the new alternator isn't working either. The 11,7 V you are measuring is power being drawn from the battery. 16-18 V should be normal output, if I am not wrong.have put the multimeter directly to the alternator whilst the engine is on and this is also showing around 11.7 volts, the same as the battery.

I thought that could be the case that's why I disconnected it and spun it by hand and got a voltage output. It was only around 1v but obviously I cant spin it as fast as the car would 😂

Should be seeing around 14.4volts when engine is running
You could give the wires a wiggle to see if reading on multi meter changes
Type fitting 100amp alternator to a suzuki Jimny
Into Google Ai has some suggestions about wiring changes
