So because apparently suzuki don't think it's a safety issue to be able to see out of the side mirrors at this time of year on the van version I'm interested in retrofit mirror heaters. Obviously it will need elements but is the loom already there or is it going to be a whole standalone thing?

All the wiring is in place all the way into the door behind where the mirror fits.
Not a cheap update but to you can buy the complete mirrors from the SZ5 and plug them in.

You can probably buy the glass insert 84730-77R10 and 84740-77R10 and create the wire through to the inside of the door

as Martin says, i bought the mirrors from Bigjimny and swapped them both over, it's great being able to see behind in the misty morning now.

Van drivers round our way don’t appear to use mirrors before pulling out in to your lane.  Perhaps that’s why Suzuki decided not to fit heated mirrors?

Do you get a heated rear window or is that missing as well?

On a slightly separate note, I have had my other car (a soft top) for 18 years and always thought it was strange that the dashboard has a heated rear window switch when the heater element is fitted, just assumed it was a common dashboard.  It was only last winter, I accidentally switched it on and the wing mirrors cleared, seems it has heated door mirrors and that is what the switch is there for.

I always gave them a scrape or used warm water/deicer.

Your message reminded me that I have the heated mirror elements in a box somewhere, never got round to fitting them.

It is a little more complex if you want to use the factory plug -- there is room for the new wires, but you have to find an appropriate cable end. But if you just directly connect wire-to-wire, it is easy and will function without further changes.
