2WD with High and Low range?

For future reference it's highly unlikely that you ever need the actual kingpins unless you have allowed it to go for a very long time without attention. Seals, bearings and shaft fair enough. Charging actual close family labour rates above zero, not in my world. Charging mates and civilians fair enough but not actual family

Any Jimny with Death wobble attributed to worn or seized kingpin bearings will show signs of wear on the kingpin shaft. To not replace both kingpins and bearings would be foolish.
I doubt if many Jimny kingpin bearings actually revolve inside the raceway, the slightest bit of wear or debris makes the inside bearing race revolve on the kingpin shaft. All of my bearings were revolving on the kingpin shaft.
As for the labour component of my fix, my grandson would have done the job for nothing I offered him $500 for his time and to show my appreciation, no charging was ever mentioned!
Not quite sure of the reasoning behind your comments?
One final point I will not be checking the kingpins or bearings again unless I experience problems, the next sign of a wobble will result in the sale of the Jimny or it will go to the tip.

I've done the job many times on various Suzuki's and never once found a kingpin out of spec. It's a 45 minute job, £30 a side for me.

Wow that's impressive, I guess you are very busy.
I will concede that once you have done this fix the time it takes gets quicker each time. The prep and clean up alone took us 45 min each side. The adding and testing of the preload force with the addition of each shim was also tedious and time consuming.
It was a great learning experience for my grandson as an apprentice mechanic, he is now confident in performing this job in his field of work in the future, $500 well spent on my behalf.

Reading between the lines of your experience with the jimny I can't help but think you are trying to justify wanting to replace the jimny. I'm inclined to suggest that having fixed it now might be a good time to look at recouping your expenses while the car is in good order.

Temeraire (2018 quasar grey automatic)
One of the last 200ish of the gen3s, probably.
Bellerophon (2024 grello van daily

Might be good advice, was considering buying a new 5 door but this wobble issue does not give me a lot of confidence in buying another Jimny. Do they have any issues?

I'm puzzled as to why you still think the Jimny "has issues" with wobble.

Your car was completely knackered, shot, kaputt.  You, or a previous owner, had not done maintenance or even basic checks -- for years.  The "issue" wasn't a design flaw.  The Jimny didn't fail, the owner did.

It's like failing to change the engine oil for a decade and then complaining that the rings are worn out.

If you want a car that will run perfectly forever no matter how badly you neglect the maintenance, well, good luck.
