Towball limit vs DR650 was created by nicolaasdekker@gmail.com
Hi,
I've got a Jimny and a DR650. I'm getting a towbar fitted as we speak so I can pull a small trailer for garden work and picking up my bike when she breaks down with me. The guy I bought the trailer from is giving me one of those motorcycle carrier type things that fit straight on the tow bar and just have a platform for under the engine to hold the bike up.
So my question is this: the jimny has a towball limit of 75kg and my DR650 is probably around 150kg... I know it's not advisable but any thoughts on hanging the bike right off the towbar for emergency, get the bike home situations?
Thanks,

The Jimny will be on its a*se with that much weight hanging off the towball. Bike trailers aren't expensive.

Notwithstanding the colorful turn of phrase above the other issue is the width of the 2 relative to each other when loaded. All it would need is a momentary lapse in concentration and you catch the wheel of the bike or more likely someone coming the other way doesn't see it and drives into it. I would look at a trailer.
