Just be aware that nowadays they are willing to weight every single thing it didn't leave the factory with even things like towing equipment. It's out of hand what they are allowed to get away with charging for. I was obliged to get an engineer report for my recaros as if somehow an mot wouldn't fail me if I'd installed them with blutac instead of bolts!

Norway 2005 Jimny M16A VVT, 235 BFG MT, 2" Trailmaster, ARB rear lck, 17%/87% high/low gears.
Living in Norway this practice seems very odd to me.
Here i pay approx 460 GBP a year fully insured for 10000km.
But no mods are possible so insure, only "extras" up to 3500 are included.
Wouldnt it be better to leave the mods uninsured like here?
Only thing adding to the price here is if any drivers are younger than 23 or you have prior accidents.
GTI's or hot hatchbacks are more expensive than the Jimny wich is mostly owned by old men.
If you are a member of something you often get good deals like if you are a hunter or an engineer or a teacher. Statistics say those groups bend less fenders.
For the 1984 SJ it is 60£ a year including road tax as it is more than 30 years old. But only covered for any damage I cause, not for the car. So cheap I can just laugh.

Not declaring mods (like suspension) would probably invalidate your insurance and if you were involved in an accident they might refuse to pay out. Not declaring an engine size change would almost certainly make your insurance void and might change your Vehicle Excise Duty band.Living in Norway this practice seems very odd to me.

Their view seems to be that any modifications could in some potential way be a contributing factor in their exposure to liability, be that an increasing potential of theft, or somehow incentivising higher risk taking behaviour in the driver or the modifications themselves somehow impair the roadworthiness of the vehicle. The fact that modified vehicle owners tend to treat their cars as their pride and joy is seemingly by the by. I find it hard to have any sympathy for the insurance industry.

Another vote for Flux - I've also insured a number of modified and competition vehicles with them over the last 20 years or so (and my current modded Jimny is with them). Not always the cheapest, so worth shopping about, but generally they've been pretty reasonable and typically don't require an engineer's report.
