Good evening advice please
we owned a 2017 old shape jimny  and had roof bars  also a roof bag to fit 2 x suit cases for trip to a lodge etc in Yorkshire area
we sold the 2017 jimny last year and recently got the 2023 jimny
so I don't no wat best option is
roof bars again or a roof rack
mainly carry  the roof bag or a bit of wood or step ladders
yes thers a difference in price
the rack looks cooler  but roof bars cheaper  and won't be used that much
if I go for the rack type I've seen sum on e bay alloy type for up to around 400 uk pound
can any body point me to a decent one not going over top as not used that much or on forum someone may have one
any advice thanks john

What ever you choose, just be aware that the maximum roof load limit is 30 kg, and that includes the weight of the rack or cross bars.

I recently took my roif bars off, I only used them to mount the traction boards too, but they were brilliant for that.
most roof racks are pointless on a jimny if you stick to the rated roof load limit, as you really can't put anything on them without going over the limit, not that it stops anyone anyway.

For what you seem to want load bars are the way to go, i might end up putting mine back on just to free up some space again that the boards are taking up, and they look good.

I looked at racks for mine and decided that the additional support was not worth the additional weight as everything I put on the top is only there because it is too long and rigid to go inside like say a couple of sheep hurdles or a feed trough or lengths of timber etc. So I would always vote for bars.

The roof racks look great, but nearly all of them are over the maximum recommended weight and there is cost, they ain’t cheap. Plus they are a bit of a job to fit so you aren’t going to remove it for the 90% of the time you don’t need it.

If you managed with roof bars before then they are the best option, at least they are easy to fit and remove.

The quitter and most slim bars are from Yakima. Absolutely perfect.
