Perhaps this is why Suzuki have dropped the Jimny

I didn't realise Suzuki UK is winding up Jimny sales. What a pity.
Suzuki New Zealand threatened to leave NZ completely due to a "clean car standard" the last government introduced, and thankfully the new one has repealed. Basically it required car makers to have their entire range below a certain emission level, which meant suzuki would be forced put of the country as they didn't have an EV / hybrid at the time to offset the rest of their ICE offerings. Kind of stupid considering they made some of the most energy efficient ICE vehicles you can buy here. My local suzuki dealer actually started importing and is now a dealer for some random chinese EV brand as well, jaecoo I believe they are, as a result of this legislation. Now that its been repealed, I'm not sure if they will continue this or not.

I know Suzuki have official said that they are focussing on EVs (and hybrids) in the short term, but just seen this about Volvo, they have abandoned their plans to offer only EV by 2030.

I am sure they are not alone.

I am sure they are not alone.

They are not - quite a few manufacturers have announced their intent to review their EV plans.

I probably haven't voiced my opinion here, but the manufacturers plans to move to EV are driven by government mandates which are simply put impractical - mass EV adoption will require a complete revamp of the country's electric power infrastructure, additional generating capacity along with a complete refresh of the transmission & distribution networks, and all it's doing for the environment is moving the emissions from the vehicle tailpipe to the power stations smokestack.  In a number of cases emissions are likely to increase because a vehicle burning petrol is cleaner than a coal fired power generator.

I've also seen some talk recently about electric cars getting taxed from 2025 as whilst the government has been pushing for more ev vehicles they aren't actually making any money from them and with all the problems they've got going on they need this money coming in so gradually electric cars are becoming even less appealing than they already are. If the government want EVs then they will have to invest heavily to bring the infrastructure in order for it to happen, make the cars more affordable, control the used car market values and support car manufacturers as they don't want to built something that doesn't sell well. I can't see this happening within their timeframe and perhaps even at all and this is why car manufactures are slamming on the brakes and giving up making cars till there's a clearer direction to go in.
