Thanks Saxj, all good to know about TJM snorkels. With all of the rain we have had recently dust isn't a problem and as I live of a big hill the chances of flooding are remote.
The original owner was a lady, so it looks like it was for styling rather than anything else. Still I am not bothered and I can't see myself testing the wading depth anytime soon.
James, Martin, the key for my cover is not there, but I managed to compress the cover and spring it off. The lock is stamped autotech.de so I think it is an after market. I have asked them if I can get key, lock barrel or a whole new hasp, but if I can't I can get a generic replacement hasp which looks like it will fit, or go back to compressing it to get it off.

On a similar subject, the Suzuki gen4 soft spare wheel covers are quite disappointing - they are elasticated and don't have the crucial drain hole that the gen3 velcro-attached covers did. Eventually you get a saggy bag of water and a mouldy tyre.

Thanks Martin, good to know it’s genuine Suzuki. I suspect my Jimny was a ‘pavement princess’ in its former life, but we will get that corrected.
I don’t hold out too much hope in getting a key but screwfix and Toolstation both sell cam locks that should fit, so will get a replacement lock for not much money next week and swap it over.
Roger, a fair amount of water drained out of the cover when I opened and closed the back door today, so you are probably right, the spare is probably a soggy mess already.

Very similar short lock barrels are fitted to boat doors and boat glove boxes

I took the lock off, measured it, went to Toolstation and the one I bought was a little long, so I was just trying to decide if I should modify it or take it back and change it when I thought I would try the new key in the old lock and it went in and unlocked the old barrel.
I bought a random key, it’s a little tight to get in, but locks and unlocks without problem. Good for me but slightly worrying that an off the shelf key works.

A work colleague had a dark blue Maestro and used to park it behind the branch office. One morning, her alarm went off and she ran out to find a bemused (older) customer sitting in the driver's seat of her car. And also in the car park was HIS dark blue Maestro. It turned out that BL used fewer than ten different door keys across the range.

That doesn’t surprise me Roger. As long as the key is the right type and will go in they only have 5 levers and provided the key is close you can often jiggle it open.
