Nothing like that. My land cruiser does it and honestly I find it distracting. I have to look at fuel receipts for volume and the tracking record for distance which is more accurate than the odometer as it records actual distance instead of the included errors of tyres only being a nominal size.

The Gen.4 has a section of the instrument panel devoted to fuel consumption, either instant or over a driven distance. I have mine to reset when I clear the distance recorder at each new tank filling. Does the Gen.3 have the same system?

My gen 3 don't even have a light to say it's nearly empty

The Gen3 has a fuel gauge that seems to work ok on mine and a warning light It also has two trip meters so I always fill up to the top and reset one of the trips.

I have an Android head unit with Torque Pro (OBD) this has a fuel economy meter but it’s only an estimate based on air flow and fuel trim readings.

There is a ‘miles to empty’ gauge, but you have to manually reset it when you fill up, there is no code to read the fuel level in the tank.

Watching the fuel gauge or miles since last fill up is a step up from a garden cane in the fuel tank but not really that comprehensive.

Anyway I haven’t run out of fuel yet, unlike my wife in her modern car who plays forecourt lottery, a game where you try to arrive at the pump as the car sucks the last dregs out of the tank.

Did a 100 mile cross country trip last week in my jb74 and got an indicated 38.6mpg. Realistically I don’t think it could have done better. I have seen 39.1mpg on a previous run. This is with some mods including AT tyres and a catback exhaust. I’d guess 100% standard might see 5% better. Which would put it over 40mpg.

Technically my tyres are 1.5% bigger. So I’d assume all else being equal but standard size tyres the onboard computer would have shown 0.6mpg better too.

As I understand it, a tracking record is for commercial vehicles which can be accessed by the vehicle owners so that they are aware as to the location of said vehicle. If you have this system fitted to your Jimny, how much more accurate would you say it is?
Previous to Tonka, my LC had a gauge and an odometer and fuel consumption could be measured from fuel used and miles covered. Obviously discrepancies such as when a garage fuel pump switches off or the vehicles odometer is inaccurate - and to what extent - will affect the results, but overall I believe that such results are more of an indication that the motor is/isn't running properly. One day, if I can find a suitable stretch of road, I might try the instantaneous figures available to me and see what speed figures give the best results.

My tracking system logs every 5 seconds to the nearest half meter if I remember correctly. I can tell the difference between my 2 sets of tyres once I have gone more than say 10 miles or rather I can when I compare with the odometer. As to which is empirically absolutely accurate dunno but I would be inclined towards the tracking system being closer.
