May I suggest we get back to the matter in hand?

I would also suggest that people living in the UK probably do not have the correct perspective of the hazards that wild Australia can present.

We have a '21 Jimny and have been adding the usual range of accessories for bush travels, these include an Ironman Bullbar, 6000lb Carbon Winch, Towbar, 80l Longranger tank, full suspension upgrade with a 60mm lift from Tough Dog, Rhino Rack alloy roof tray with a 270 awning, front hitch points, rock sliders and a couple of light weight internal trays etc, kind of all the usual stuff. A recent trip to our local tip and I was in shock when we sat on the weighbridge, with my wife beside me (65kg) I'm 86kg and we were reading 1568kg, 133kg over GVM!
Now I need to do some double checks and a special trip to confirm the weights, but this scared the crap out of me as if we were in a accident due to some third party idiot, our insurance would most likely love to kiss us goodbye without a GVM upgrade.
Has anyone else experienced similar issues and how did you go about fixing it? I'm estimating we need a GVM upgrade to around 1800kg to be safe once we have some camping goodies and maybe a small trailer hitched. I've spoken to a couple of Certifiers but they have not got back to me with anything concrete for a path forward, also waiting to hear from Tough Dog on the suspension specs. Getting the impression people are running for cover!
This isn't really an issue for anyone in the UK. Because we don't generally need to carry as much, don't have the same scale of wilderness. And the regulations are slightly different. I'm not sure if they are even mandatory or simply 'guidelines' in terms of law.
However for you use case I see these options:
1. Carry less.
2. Get a different vehicle that can carry what you require.
3. Carry on as you are and chance your arm, only you can weigh the potential risk....
4. Get a GVM upgrade such as this: www.ironman4x4.com/blog-posts/gvm-upgrade-to-suit-suzuki-jimny/

Apparently the De-lux ARB bull bar (Small size) weighs in at somewhere between 65-70kg.
May I suggest we get back to the matter in hand?
Roger
Not certain where that 65~70 kg comes from...

Considering a GVM upgrade, this does not increase the GTW. That must remain the same, so what you gain with the update - 350kg - you loose out on your trailer / van. Because of this Dihusky is going to need to do the maths in more detail ie every add on needs to have a weight attached and then a more detailed analysis of what he really needs.
By the way, does a GVM update include higher spec. brakes?

Not the ones I've looked at (the Ironman GVM upgrades are a stiffer suspension that have been certified by the relevant authorities), and that is what I would be more concerned about.
The stock JB74 brakes are a relatively small, thin solid rotor and it probably wouldn't take much to overheat it and warp it.

Why would you need different brakes? It’s not as if the Jimny is under brakes in stock trim. And as you said the GTW doesn’t change.
I'd consider the stock brakes as marginal and we're no longer talking "stock trim" here, this is a Jimny that's already pushing weight limits and it's also not just the weight that matters.
The thread starter hasn't told us what tires he has fitted but I doubt that he's running the stock 195/80R15, simply switching to a wider tire requires significantly more braking force because of the added rotating weight. I learned this the hard way in my "hot hatch" days, same weight vehicle, wider tires, higher speeds, I didn't have the "braking power" to really slow the vehicle and ended up overheating the discs and warping them.
I run an older GV with larger than stock tires, the brakes on that are acceptable after a pad change (I'm running EBC on that vehicle) and one of the first things I explored when I bought my JB74 was the options for better brakes, I haven't done anything beyond exploring the options as the JB74 is more or less "unmolested" essentially just the 215/75R15 AT tires, which by the way is the size that Suzuki fits to certain models.
We're scheduled to get the five door Jimnies next year and I'm considering replacing the GV with one, and that would get quite a bit more than a tire change, that comes with ventilated discs so it's going to be one less thing for me to worry about.

Of course other mods can impact braking. But in the case of the op (Assuming they are in Oz). The GVM upgrade should have no impact on what their brakes may already have to cope with.

One of the mods. I am considering is a vented disc conversion with a better quality pad. I am not a heavy on the brakes but the standard fitment does not inspire confidence.

Different specs for different territories. But the point still stands for either figure.Tow limit for the Gen.4 is 1300 kg braked and 350 kg un-braked. Info. taken from the technical spec. issued by Suzuki.
