According to this man
it's an easy job - although I'm leaving mine in place as I quite like it. Have taken a look at the video and also had a look at the car/cage and it looks like the Average Joe could undertake the job with little problem!

Glad you are loving your new Commercial Jimny. l was going to get one for my business but it was just too small for my needs, l ended up with a new Defender....only another £30,000

I watched and listened, to the video from Bob 1050 concerning removal of the guard from his commercial Jimny and I was surprised as to the amount of noise generated when he closed the doors - side and rear - in comparison to my own Gen.4. Yes, I have fitted a sound reduction kit and yes it has made a big difference but hearing that metallic clang reinforces my view that a decent sound reduction kit will work wonders.

l've never had an issue with noise in our SZ5. Also l've not noticed any door clanging when slammed.

Noise levels are fine unless you drive it flat out, which we never do.

Best cruising speed seems to be 65mph

I based my comment on listening to the sound as the doors on the LCV being closed and comparing it with my own SZ5 which has sound deadening panels applied to various areas. I am still convinced that the panels have made a considerable reduction to generated noise levels.

They will.
I did the opposite, and fitted a transfer case guard.
This does a brilliant job of reflecting all the whiny whirry bearing & chain sounds up into the car!

My solution was to stick a big piece of that (supposedly) fire resistant closed cell sound deadening inside the guard, and it reduced the noise from "catastrophic gearbox failure imminent" to "is there any oil in it?" which will have to do.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

It is removeable entirely, and segmentally, just a few bolts. However, your local laws may not allow that. Mine require the cage to be in at all times, although common opinion is that the average law officer wouldn't take note. However, yearly car technical/safety inspections do take note as many are recorded.

The cage is also moveable in its entirety back one stop/mounting hole. You can get more reclining room this way at the expense of trunk space.

I've grown to like the cage. I 3d printed hangers from Printable and have a hat, a knite, and other doodads on it. Also, it has come in handy packing as I can literally top off the trunk with luggage.

It's only noisy when things clang on it. But I can understand that with no rear seats that there's much less deadening of whatever sounds do arise from the back
