wheel spacers was created by madman
Hi Everyone,

I have just fitted 15x8 ET0 steel modular wheels and 215/7515 tyres from 4x4 tyres to my 2022 Jimny, before tightening the nuts I spun the wheel and it knocked the balance weights off, on trying to hand tighten the wheels nuts I noticed the inside of the rim was hitting the steering arm on both N/s and O/S. I have spaced the wheels out with washers just to see what is required and I had to take it out 7.5mm minimum,  Does anyone know of a good quality spacer they could recommend in the smallest size possible. 4x4tyres.com only supply a 30mm spacers which would take me way beyond the arches.

Many thanks
Ken,

I understood that the stndard wheel size is 15" 5.5" with ET5, if you have gone to 8" wide and ET0 I think you are going to need 30mm spacers to space the wheel correctly, see this calculator

www.1010tires.com/Tools/Wheel-Offset-Calculator#

You might be able to get away with less, but not sure what else will hit when on full lock.

Can I ask why you went to 8" wide, I have 215/75 r15 fitted to standard 5.5" alloys?

The two options on the 4x4tyres.com site were 7" and 8" guess I would have been better with the 7" .
Thanks for your help.
Cheers Ken.

The recommended rim size for a 215/75R15 tyre is 6" with variation between 5.5" - 6.5". Your 8" rim is way bigger than you need and require and this is your problem. I fitted 215/75R15 tyres to Suzuki 5.5" steel rims with no problems. If you fit any spacers to solve your problem, you will probably fall foul of the law relating to tyre tread being outside of the bodywork and you will promote early wear and tear on wheel bearings and king pin bearing. In my opinion you will be better off to change to standard Suzuki rims.

I don’t suppose you can send them back can you?

8” wide wheels are too wide for your tyre profile, you might have sealing or side wall problems.

There are several retailers who sell aftermarket 5.5 inch steel wheels, including Jimnybits and Raptor.

According to one website I looked at a 215 tyre can be mounted on to rims 5.5 to 7.5, so 7” would have been better.

Plus the difference in inside clearance is 14mm less rather than 27mm less so you might have got away without spacers and still be within the wheel arches.

You can get flared arches, but it all adds to the cost.

Regarding spacers, the issue is the length of the studs. The standard studs are just under 30mm long. If you fit a 15mm spacer you don't have enough thread left to safely get a wheel nut on. A 30mm or larger spacer is deep enough to cover to original studs, and then has it's own set of studs you bolt the wheel to. It's not ideal but it works.
I can only reiterate what others have said about rim sizes. I run the same size tyres on standard 5.5j rims. For off-road you generally want to run as narrow a rim as possible so the sidewall of the tyre is tucked in and protected from damage by the tread.
