So I plan on doing an engine swap on my jimny and I'm dead set on boosting it (probably supercharging it because I'm different) and was looking at specs between 1.6's on different vehicles noticing the different compression ratios, my wondering is, do I get a 11.1 comp ratio 125hp engine out a swift running less boost or a 9.7 comp ratio 102hp engine out of the liana and run more boost, basically I'm after as much power as possible while keeping it reliable, forged rods may be in the budget as I've heard the standards don't handle much boost, so basically what engine would the best option for max power?, many thanksĀ

You might want to look at this thread

Or Rotrex website

I am not sure if there is anyone on here has actually done what you want to do, so you might be breaking new ground as well as breaking engines and transmission components on a regular basis.
I doubt that the standard transfer box will take such a big up lift in power and then possibly the diffs will give out quickly, not sure about the clutch either, lots and lots to go wrong.
Why do you need such a big increase in power?

I've seen many posts of people turboing a 1.6, not seen anything said about transfer boxes giving way nor diffs, people have mentioned about the half shafts going but what I read they were also running quite large tyres. Clutch will obviously need doing but that's a given. I'm not looking for drag strip numbers but 170 maybe 180 break reliably would be perfect. It all boils down to me absolutely loving the car but it's just too slow for my liking/driving.

Norway 2005 Jimny M16A VVT, 235 BFG MT, 2" Trailmaster, ARB rear lck, 17%/87% high/low gears.
After swapping my 80hp m13 to a 105hp m16 I have changed the gearbox, the rear driveshaft, and the rear diff. But I drive like stupid.

As someone who used to track day a manual Jimny I would suggest you are looking in the wrong place. Lower the ride height, firm up the damping and get some sticky road tyres and if you are anything like talented behind the wheel you will be hunting sports cars on back roads because they are easy pickings.

My Jimny is 150BHP at .4 boost. Its going to the dyno to be put up to .55 boost. Should be 180BHP. Driven it a year with zero issues. drives beautifully with stiffened suspension. I previously had a 230BHP mazda mx5 and the Jimny is so much more fun.

The problem l see with turbocharging a Jimny is traction.
You can't use 4wd on road, it's RWD only.
So, unless you can somehow fit a centre differential the turbo Jimny will likely shoot off the road into the nearest ditch/hedge/tree like a demented clockwork toy when you floor it.

Ah thats half the fun pal, mines quite predictable and I can feel when the back will and won't come out, it's simply just a matter of throttle control and weight distribution
