Is there any downsides to just keep my Jimny in High ration 4x4 permanently ? Is tyre wear or MPG affected ?

Yes there is a major downside, the transmission will get tightened to the point where something expensive goes bang in a very dramatic fashion. 4x4 is only for low grip surfaces. Anything resembling a sealed road surface has to be 2wd.
