Ac compressor alternatives was created by justintime441
My ac compressor isn't working, pulled it apart and the turbine looking piece was broken. Is there any other model cars that use that compressor. I can't find any locally even used, apparently they're gold. I see on ebay some compressors out a china, has anyone had any luck with these? (I fear the poor quality)
Cheers

Unless you live somewhere hot is ac actually necessary? I only use mine as an idler pulley for the belt, it stopped working properly years ago and I am no inclination to fix it. It is possible to bypass it with a shorter belt too.

Is it possible to remove all the ac gubbins, fit a shorter belt and take advantage of all the lost power?

Yes and no. Yes you can remove it all and replace the belt with a 4pk850 same as the alternator. However assuming that the magnetic clutch on your compressor is free then you don't actually gain any power as the compressor is not constantly being powered.
