Not trying to be a rain cloud but unless you give up color and trim choice, you will likely need to factor that in also.

I started out with nothing & still have most of it left

Its not a newly developed engine, it is from their line of Vans available in the Asian market. It has been tweaked for the Jimny.

Apparently it will not meet upcoming EU regs. This does not prevent Suzuki from selling it but there is a penalty for each one sold that will impact the profitability. So they are likely to change the engine (allegedly)

Martin

2003 M13 early KAP build.
3" Trailmaster lift with 1.5 Spacers on front
Customised winch bumper and roll cage
235/85R16 Maxxis Bighorns on 16" Rims, 4:1 Rocklobster, Rear ARB locker and on-board air
Corrected arms all-round, rear disks, Recaro seats and harnesses

It's an existing block, the rest of it is new, I hear.

This isn't quite correct. It meets all current and immediate future regs, the issue is that with CO2 emissions of 154 g/km for the manual, it screws up Suzuki's cross-range CO2 average. By 2021, all manufacturers are required to achieve an average of 95 g/km, Suzuki are just north of 100 at the moment. If they sell a ton of vehicles with a CO2 figure of 154, they'll miss that target by some margin and will be exposed to substantial EU fines as a result.

The SHVS mild-hybrid system would, in my opinion, be perfect to help with that, but they say there are currently 'no plans' to introduce it, or any other electrified option on Jimny. When pressed as to why, I received two different answers, both of which were bullshit, so I'm placing that firmly in the 'missed opportunity' category for now.

Certainly from everything I've heard, the 1.5 is not going anywhere.

@AlexK said the 600 would be available in the first half of 2019, which correlates with the 1100 total available for the whole year as mentioned previously.

Isn't there a 3 year waiting list for the new model in Japan already?

Colin

Yes, 600 in first six months, the original expectations in the dealer chain was between 2-3 per month per dealer. 600 is apparently closer to 1 per month although I am not close enough to the information, just feeding back the reports I am hearing

Here's a couple of shots from the off-road course. With three people on board, the Jimny will still climb the steepest hill on the site on tickover.

Thanks @AlexK

Disappointingly, my first colour choices were the medium grey then the green. That silver one does look good though!

A decent non-professional off-road exercise for the new Jimny from the Auszookers forum:

One thing I've just noticed. Japan market Jimnys (both the Sierra model that we're getting and the Japan-only Kei-spec model) have keyless entry, but the non-Japan models don't - no buttons above the locks on the doors and no start button inside.

To be honest I'm fairly pleased about this, given the well publicised shortcomings of keyless security!

I think colour and it's combinations even though subjective will have a huge impact and make a massive difference to the overall look and presentation of the vehicle.
