Hi peeps... as good as it looks - and it is truly creative - it's just a concept car... replicating an electric 4x4 in the future .... needless to say, the 2018 version will not have two metres of ground clearance, beautiful glass-framed inset doors, electric blue wheels - or even a super cool front grill that doubles as a driving light.... or a rear fender that looks more like a skateboard ..... dam shame too ..... although I'm sure you could replicate it .... eBay lol....

Not the Tokyo Motor show but this can give more hope. It is supposed to be a picture at the new Jimny assembly line.

It does appear that the white one is on tracks with a black one in front????

I started out with nothing & still have most of it left

Looks hopeful, a SJ style body with a modern engine/interior would be lovely. :)

Don't know if any of you are aware of this, but Ineos (the UK chemical company) are building a Defender replacement, currently called Projekt Grenadier. That much you probably already know. As of late, it's being talked of (by them) as a 'mini' Defender - obviously suggests even smaller than the current Defender! I'm not sure if it will be, but the price is going to be double that of a Jimny.

Ooh I can see an actual chassis! Maybe we will get what we want. A 1.0 turbo engine option would be nice.

Daniel...I would volunteer to go there and put that goop on just to get a better look.

Here's another that was just posted to the local Jimny club.

It's only my speculation but, since they are being posted from Japan, I think these are from a member who is working in the factory and sneaking some shots with his cell phone.

Not sure how reliable this is (the 2017 part is obviously incorrect) but it would be very cool to have an old school transfer lever.

Why?

It needs a nice big normally aspirated torquey engine, 1.8-2 litres would be nice. Would tow a lot better. B)

Now the tax is the same for everything you might as well get a decent sized engine than some weedy little screamer that needs revving hard to even get moving.. ;)

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

My own theory is that it is retro and back to basics for a reason. It is going to be built in India and the developing world will be its market. They are only just phasing out the Gypsy (aka Samurai) there so not only is it a Jimny replacement but it is an SJ replacement. The army and public services are a large customer. Therefore the rumour that it has a manual transfer box seems to add up to a vehicle that is low cost and easy to maintain with a large hammer would fit.

Put in some carpet, plastic trim and a nice radio and it will pick up some sales in the developed world, but the largest production will be of a stripped out version that you can put the goats in the back and hose it out. The defender has gone and the rivals keep getting larger and going more expensive and up-market.
