Buying a new Jimny.... was created by viducce
Hi friends,
Expecting delivery of my new Jimny at the end of this month...
Was wondering how to go about the mods that I have planned and how they may void the warranty on a new vehicle.
Just simple mods like a 2" lift, snorkel along with 2 ARB lockers could already affect the warranty, is that correct?
Would you rather wait until the warranty has ended or has anybody experience with modding a new Jimny?
Thanks and cheers,
Chris in Taiwan

It is really up to you to decide when you add mods that will void the warranty.
Then when you decide to do it those mods need careful consideration. On a two inch lift you can't go too big with the tyres but even so I would want to upgrade my front shafts and cv's if adding a locker up front, which would mean using 26 spline side gears with most makes of shafts and cv's.
So I would personally settle for just a rear locker. The rear shafts are ok with smaller tyres and a locker.

You need to speak to Suzuki about how your modifications would affect the warranty and get an answer in writing in case you have issues down the line. I suspect lockers and a lift will render most of the warranty useless.

Thanks Kirkynut and Busta,
I figured it will come down to that, so maybe I'll just go for a snorkel for starters...
Are the front driveshaft really so weak?
Also don't really plan on rolling on big tires, I've read a lot about the195/80r15 cause I do like the skinny and tall tires,
but they won't fit without a lift I guess...
I got my Pajero standing on 255/85R16....

As soon as you lock the axle you are doubling the maximum torque load on the CVs and driveshafts. Jimny CVs aren't as bad as Landy CVs, but they do still break. I'd imagine you'd be fine on 195/80r15 though.
Tall and skinny is good!

But doesn't the taller tyre mess with the gearing from 70 - an 80? Or not enough to worry about?
