hammering sound from gearbox or transfer box was created by mysterious
Hi all. plz need some help
I have suzuki jimny model 1999 manual gearbox.
no modification at all , still original . 3 years ago i fitted yokohama A/T-S 195/80/15R untill now tires are still new with full grip and no slipping.
uponce a time when I was angry I released the clutch pedal quickly in first gear so I heard only one hammer sound. I thought that i damaged the engine mount. I'm always driving in 2wd and im sure there
is a complete disengage from the 4wd.
after that when I'm trying to accelerate quickly sometimes I hear many hammering or knocking sound specialy if there is full grip on tarmac or if I'm uphill and trying to accelerate on 1st gear. last time I let RPM about 5500 on the 1st gear and shift quickly to 2nd gear while quick release the clutch pedal so I also listen that sound. I did that just trying to diagnose if it's from the 1st gear gears or the chain in the transfer gearbox.even while reversing in an uphill.
I think it's the primary shaft maybe.
THE SOUND IS FROM THE MIDDLE OF THE JIMNY AND I ASSUME IT'S LIKE SOME GEARS ARE BROKEN OR MAYBE A SLIPPING GEARS OR CHAIN( like the bicycle chain when slipping and not well engaged).
while driving on highway , put the car in neutral to listen if there is a noise in the rear differential. all is ok.
i need some help before i take my jimny to the garage cz maybe mechanic man will try to disassemble gear box or tranfer case.
any help is appreciated. thanks all

Sounds like the transfer chain is slipping, quite a common fault.
Cheapest fix is a transfer box from a scrap Jimny.

Sir , u mean it's better to install a used complete transfer box. or get a new chain if possible ??
i asked the company for new chain they said it costs about 400$ and they don't have it and they should order it. btw i found only one transfer case in all my country in the scrap shop for 250$ . the owner shop told me it's from japanese broken cars and in very good conditions. i will try to replace it and i will reply on the forum if the problem is fixed.
anw special thanks from Beirut city in Lebanon for your quick reply

Also check for a broken transfer box mount. The long one is a common problem.

yes i will. but i don't think it's the long mount. cz
it's not one hammer. the sound is sometimes 6 hammers sound. like the chain jumping on the gear teeth many times.. thanks again
