Hi, will need plugging into a code reader to determine where the fault is, or alternatively remove the warning light bulb. If it is on it is an mot fail but if it does not work at all it is only an advisory,

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

According to the MOT manual, it is a fail if the bulb doesn't come on, or doesn't go off.
There is a diagnostic port that I will have a look for today, that you ground a pin and it causes the lamp to flash the error code.
I had a look in the manual, and discovered that for the past 5 years, mine has been telling me that there is an uncleared historic error code stored
The airbag light comes on steady for a few seconds, and goes off if all is well.
Mine gives 6 flashes and then goes out, which means there is a historic code.
If they flash 6 times and stay on there is a current fault, usually a disconnection, most likely the tape measure style spool behind the steering wheel. connector

That didn't work
The monitor coupler is on the drivers side, remove that flap below the steering column ~(2 screws and pull backwards to disengage the plastic clips)
The coupler has just 1 purple wire and is part of the yellow airbag harness.
Ground this wire and the airbag light flashes the code(s) over and over e.g. flash....flashflash.............................flash....flashflash.... is 12.
12 means "Everything is Awesome" and is what it should say.
Then you switch off & on again wait 6 seconds, then ground the wire for a second, release for a second 5 times to clear the codes.
Mine just says 12 and clearing it does nothing, maybe it is supposed to flash 6 times and go out, and the manual is written badly
