What do I need to make and fit breathers?

No issues with Swarf getting into the diff while tapping? If not, I may be tempted....
I don't fancy changing all the diff oil as well.
What's the problem with changing the diff oil? If you have not done it recently it will probably be due.

When I did mine I coated the tap in grease. Caught most if not all the swarf.
Done an oil changethis week and no issues!

I didn't have any problems with the swarf, but I made sure I changed the oil afterwards.

Lying on my back in the garage I could spot the breather poking out in the transmission tunnel... Strange, as I'd always read that getting to the gearbox breather was a real chore?
Closeup... there's just a little bit of rubber pipe on the breather tube and then a small plastic cap on it...
So I reached up and pulled the cap off, and used that as a reference to order a reducer - 8mm internal pipe to 6mm plastic tube to match what is supplied in Martin's / BigJimny's excellent breather kit...
The reducer fitted perfectly into the end of the existing breather rubber tube, and the tube supplied with Martin's / BigJimny's breather kit fitted in perfectly...
And the other end of the tube plugs into the manifold block I added to Martin's / BigJimny's breather kit (as my Rockwatt Rocklobster transfer box already had a 8mm elbow connected to it when I got it)
You may remember, the right hand 8mm black tube goes back to the transfer box, the 3 smaller 6mm tubes pointing down go to the front and rear axles, and now the gearbox breather, whilst the left one heads up to the snorkel's head -
And is neatly held to the genuine Safari snorkel with a couple of plastic P-Clips on the mounting bolts...
Breathers Complete!
As said above, I used Martin's / BigJimny's excellent breather kit, but added the manifold block as my Rockwatt Rocklobster box had an 8mm fitting already tapped into -
I've suggested to Martin that he could add this reducer / coupler to his kit, as it's a lot easier to just slip that into the existing breather rubber pipe?

Then the elbow connector just screws into the thread you've cut -
Breather is the right-hand blue tube, the other is the ARB's airline...
My diffs were already out for rear ARB airlocker / front LSD installations, so changing the oil was a necessity anyways...
It's probably wise to change your axle oils at the same time as fitting the breather tubes, particularly if you've already been offroading / greenlaning without "proper" breathers fitted...? :blink:
