I have a 6.5:1 Low box, with 16" Rims and 205/75/16 Tyres.
On our recent 4x4 outing to the Lakes (Liverpool to Cumbria and back) I drove 242miles and put in £68.63p of fuel at £1.309 per litre = 51.93litres = 11.438 UK Gallons = 21.157 Miles per Gallon – not bad considering I was pushing 70mph on motorway to get home!!
My rationale with fuel costs, is that when its getting low on fuel, I fill it up, run it until it needs more fuel and then i fill it up.
It's only on long outings (like our Lakes trips, and probalby in October for Big Jimny Meet) that i keep a check on the MPG.

My rule of thumb is, the more mods I do, the less miles I get from a tank. No surprise there then.

I've got an X-reg 16v with 275 ats on standard wheels, lifted suspension/body, snorkel, no back box and on a long motorway trip I get around 23mpgs - so given up working it out!!
The combo of the missing back box and the intake roar from the snorkel usually mean I get around 20mpg, but I do get a lot more smiles per gallon
