Quick question about Jimny's.
They aren't available where I am (Canada) so I have to turn to the wisdom of the internet for help.
I'm going to be in Iceland this Summer and currently have a Jimny selected as my rental car because I want to drive on what they call "F" roads, which are gravel and unmaintained.
One road in particular I want to drive has some river crossings that don't look too deep or fast moving but what is an acceptable depth for me to try in a stock Jimny? How high off the ground is the air intake, without a lift or tire change?

3" Trailmaster lift with 1.5 Spacers on front
Customised winch bumper and roll cage
235/85R16 Maxxis Bighorns on 16" Rims, 4:1 Rocklobster, Rear ARB locker and on-board air
Corrected arms all-round, rear disks, Recaro seats and harnesses

The air intake is located up under the front wing (Fender).
On a UK spec. Jimny this is on the Right Hand side as you sit in the car (left hand side as you stand in front of the car looking at it). I have no reason to believe this is different on left hookers.
It creates a nice air pocket for itself if you keep moving so you can push your luck to the lip of the bonnet (hood).
The drivers manual is more conservative and suggests a lower level.

Your air intake is in/under your right wing, behind the inner wing.
This is about a little bit higher than the top of your tire... BUT....
There are some précautions to take :
- How strong is the rivercurrent... if you can't get trough on foot staying upright due to the current don't go trough whit your car and make a detour.
- If you are not sure about the depth of it, go yourself into the river (on foot) and check which traject you should take.
- Look out for big boulders hidden under the watersurface.
- Drive gently into the water and try to keep a slow but steady "speed", before you get into the river look for a good way out at the other side of it.
- Look out NOT to make a wave in the front of your car, when this is flooding your bonnet your air intake and motor will be soaked.
- When you have a wave in the front of your car and you're reaching the other side the "wave" can come back to you.
- Use your common sense.
- Have lot's of fun...

Thanks for the quick answers guys, as well as the tips for crossing water.
On a stock Jimny the top of the tire is around 670mm (based on a tire size calculator). So I guess I'll check the depth and hope we find it to be less than that.

I hope you realise that by logging on to this forum that you have committed to show us the photos!
I bet when you first drive it you will think how can the Europeans drive such a basic, bouncy and rattling car. Then when you finish your holiday you will want to pack it in your luggage and take it home with you.

Be aware that Jimnys float more than LRs so any real current will take you off for a ride you didn't expect!
