Cheers Sniper. Yes, I definitely got an improvement in performance on my car (VVT) with this K&N air filter - what was more surprising was that my passenger instantly noticed the improved smoothness. I can't say I've noticed any more induction noise, but mine is a convertible and noisy as hell at the best of times!
The last engine oil cx was at the main Suzuki dealership when I first got the car a few weeks back and I assume they will have used a semi-synthetic.
I've been running it on Super unleaded too (BP) - mostly in the hope that it might help clean out any build up of gum etc in the works, but I can't honestly say I have noticed any difference in performance or MPG so far, so have gone back to regular unleaded.
(My diesel SAAB ran significantly smoother quieter and far was more lively on super diesel, but like a bag of nails if I ever put ASDA fuel in it.)
Perhaps I should next fill it with super unleaded and see if the combination of the filter and fuel make any significant difference; there are a few hills around here that I regularly climb so it will be easy to gauge any improvement.

I have put panel filters in pretty much every car i have had that there was a fitment for and will continue to do so. But I stand by the perceived performance improvement to be all in the mind. I have even gone to the extent of testing against a new paper filter back to back and quite honestly with my limited budget for timing equipment there's no difference. The thing is that they're going to make you push the car a little harder because you have just spent 2 or 3 times the cost of a paper one so you want there to be an improvement. I'm not saying there isn't one but it's going to be hundredths of a second not tenths especially on a small naturally aspirated engine pushing a 4x4 rounded brick. Hell the difference between the two on my old Scooby wasn't much more than a fraction of a second and that was a very powerful car to start with.

I know what you mean Lambert, but I'm convinced its not a placebo effect as you suggest, because my neighbour (who didn't know anything at all about the filter) simply said "Hey, have you done something to this car? It feels a lot smoother"

I imagine that with a high performance car like the Scooby that the 'law of diminishing returns' may be in play; meaning that because the car is already so highly tuned, any changes you make will only make small differences.

The problem is that you are not altering the inlet tract nor the size of the throttle body so there's a limit on the volume of air imposed by these that merely increasing the flow rate of the filter is not going to affect in any significant manner. If you are running a direct cold air feed via a high flow filter into a larger throttle body and also have a free flow exhaust and a ecu map to accommodate it all then yes you can see a noticeable effect. It's all about fluid dynamics and making one change to one part of the system can only ever have a small benefit in a system that someone has spent a large lump of money on making work in a specific application.

Agree with Lambert on this one.
Even if there would be a very minor gain in performance increase, you wouldn't notice it due to small size of the engine.

I've been running with no filter for short runs on a few occasions. And it's just the same slow Jimny.
I'm also suspecting that it's more of a feel people get having spent money on a "performance" filter.

My only observation on that article is that yes an oiled filter may allow some more dirt past which isn't ideal but what are we talking about in terms of reduction of engine lifetimes, 5 or 6 thousand miles i don't know, but there's enough other things that will kill an engine before I am going to start worrying about a cleanable air filter.

Been tidying the side of the house under what should be the carport. Found my light pod and rear spoiler....not sure if the light pod would be too much though...any thoughts?

Also it’s got a k&n filter in it but don’t know what it drives like with a standard one as when I got it it had no filter at all!
