About 6 months ago i did a lubrication change using good quality oils from Andrew Page's a semi national motor factor. Because I was blinded by the sales team i put a 75w90 gl 4/5 oil in the main box despite repeatedly requesting the proper 75w80 and being assured that their product was sufficiently advanced as to be able to perform in my application. Hokum. Because of life i haven't been on many long drives since February but on the few it has had I had started to find down changes to 4th and 2nd were a little bit stiff and i was having to be very precise about all gear changes hot or cold. So i took myself down to Halfords as they list the proper 75w80 gl4 and it is only a tenner a litre, or 7 odd on trade card, and lo and behold even on the few miles it has been since yesterday afternoon it glides into gear and seems to go for ever on the overun, it's like it is swimming in water not molasses like it was. Moral of the story, don't accept anything that is not in the spec detailed in the service guide. Lesson learned. Again.

Money saved on MOT all adds to the modification budget!
