Just recieved a bit of bad news a few days ago.
My other half was driving my jimny home from work and suddenly started crackling really loud, when she pulled over. (luckily jist outside my house) steam was pouring out the bonnet. thought possibly the head gasket.
Im working awa from home right now and couldnt check myself so got her to send pics of the engine bay. luckily it looks like the radiator bottle has fell off and the crackling and steam would have been the water on the hot exhaust. so Big sigh of relief BUT then today she said she tried to start it to move her back onto our drive and it wont start........ trying to get information from my tecnically challeged girlfriend is pointless and the worst thing is Im not home again till friday and the suspence is killing me.ha just want to noo whats wrong with it and try fix it.

Ritchie I just looked to see where you are to see if you were close enough to pop round to give it a quick look but you are a wee bit far from me! I am going to Kent tomorrow & Birmingham Sunday too but Scotland is too far!
Today I've replaced the back box on the Jimjam and had a bugger of a job getting it off. Naturally the bolts on the flange were rusted but my Irwin tool for rounded nuts did the trick combined with Mr Angry!
Then it was too big to drop down with the tow bar on and the tailpipe going round and through it's brackets, so Mr Angry cut the tail pipe down just enough for it to be joggled out.
The new one was a completely different story though! It's considerably smaller and slipped into place nicely. With a bit of joining paste and new nuts & bolts from my quality street tin of odd bolts nipped up & all was well.
It is made by Walker Exhausts, so if you have a tow bar, try to get a Walker Exhausts back box to avoid having to fight with rusted bolts on your tow bar!
I gave it a spray with stone chip under the boot floor whilst it was off and was pleased with the lack of rust under there.
I also put some CV grease in the rocklobster as suggested by Rockwatt to quieten it down and after a little drive I don't know if it's worked or not to be honest.
Then I changed the coolant in my Ignis Sport as it's the first winter I've had it so I don't know how old the coolant is.
So I've been a busy boy!
