Took Ermintrude to the test center, a new one, and guess what? They failed her on a trailing arm bush. Very disappointed with them and their testing as the bush did have some movement when i did the pre test but when I got her home the centre sleeve had been delaminated i can only assume by someone on the end of a 6 foot pry bar. This message is the polite version, I don't have enough money for the swear box version. I am not a happy bunny. Not at all.

MOT's are a bit of a mine field. Luckily I have a mot tester that is into 4x4's and is "sympathetic" at test time. :)

I'm running out of options. The only one left is the council. Three fails from 3 cars from 3 different centres all for dubious reasons. This after years of clean tests at a regular centre which is now beyond use.

Did you see my moan about my Pajero elsewhere somewhere.
I have moved house recently so my usual very good MoT place that I used for 20 years was no longer a choice. I picked a local one simply because it is local and watched on their lounge CCTV while he literally spent ten or 15 minutes minutes stabbing at two particular places until he made a hole in each. I was almost tempted to stop him as I could see he was deliberately trying to bodge a hole. Had it been today's steel he would have perforated even new metal. I took it to another MoT recommended by a local and he was disgusted at what they had done. They had a long list of advisories too. The new MoT who chap repaired the damage (which I describe as rape) even said the holes were not a fail anyway. He told me the advisories were nonsense and MoT'd it. My old MoT chap back in Brum always said to me, even last year, that she was built like a tank and bodywise would last for years; all I had to do was keep up with regular maintenance.
The Pajeros are a different kettle of fish from a Shogun as they comes from Japan. I took off both rear arch extensions for the repair to be done and after 25 years there is literally no rust behind at all. Unlike my Vitaras and SJ of the past where I removed the arch extension to find loads of rot.
I get really annoyed with MoT testers looking to drum up work. It happens way too much.

Unfortunately with this shower the test is conducted at a separate sister site so i couldn't actually watch the test in progress. Thing is if I used my post hole crow bar in the pre test i could probably find any number of issues but that would be excessive.

I use one of those we only mot places
and find them to be more fair as there is no small garage connected to it
"so they don't say next door will sort it out"
could have been one of them new shake it to death machines that wrecked the bush
little tip inspector gave me with my jim was air down the tyres so a lot of the shaking
is absorbed by the tyres ;)

Someone on here said the shaker is not as efficient as a man. Like the idea of dropping the tyre pressure. Also how low to drop the pressures as I have a 20 min drive to get there.

Shame you are not local to me because I could "help" with this issue. :(

If you want easy MOTs get a motorbike! I've built up an old bike for greenlaning and took it for an MOT the other day. The tester wrote down the number plate, we chatted for 30 minutes and he gave me a pass certificate. He didn't even start the engine, which needs to be running for the lights to work!

Hastings from Harrogate for an mot is a little bit far even for me. Thank you for the offer though.
