SJ Modified front axle was created by Smoggy
I've submitted some photos of my recently purchased front axle. I would be grateful for your comments. I got the unit from Gazwell and it was removed from his competition trayback Jimny. The diff is from a Jimny with ARB locker installed and diff breather as you can see in the photo. It is welded to an SJ axle with SJ shafts and hubs (the ARB side gears have been changed to fit the splines from the SJ chromoly 4340 shafts) with spring mounts and other appendages welded on to fit the Jimny.

What I don't understand is how the 4WD is selected without the use of vacuum system or manual locking hubs.

Thanks in advance guys.

Excuse my stupidity Rich but I thought that the Jimny 4WD is only supposed to be a part time system, am I therefore not going to be able to drop into 2WD using my selector from the rocklobster?

yes you still have 2wd as when you select 2wd on transfer box theres no drive to the front output on the transfer box

the only thing with fixed hubs is even in 2wd when driving the wheels are still turning the front shafts, diff & front prop but theres no drive to them so that no problem

some sj's & vits come fitted with fixed hubs as standard so no need to worry & theres nothing to go wrong with fixed hubs

the only downside is if you break a front shaft or cv you cant disengage front hubs but you can just unbolt the fixed hub to drive home

Vacuume hubs- when in 2wd the hubs spin free and the t-box doesnt spin the output
Fixxed hubs - when in 2wd the hubs turn the diff and props but the t-box isnt turning the output drive
