Driving lights, how to mount them?

I decided to revive this old topic instead of making a new one.

I have a pair of Hella Comet 450 driving lights left over from my Panda 4x4 Mk1, and I have been thinking for a long time about installing them to the front on my Jimny. They improve night time visibility by a tremendous amount, especially if driving in a forest.

However, installing them is not a simple task because of the metrosexual front bumper.

My front bumper is 2nd gen, made between 2006 and 2012.

As my front bumper has sagged and a lot of its mounting points are broken, I am planning to fabricate a reinforcement steel pipework behind the front bumper, so that will hold the bumper and prevent any future sagging.
At the same time, that reinforcement can be used as a platform to hold the front driving lights.

All I have to do now is to choose a good location for the lights.

I am considering four locations.
Here are the criteria:
1. Least effect on air ventilation / engine cooling
2. Lightning effectiveness (they need to be driving lights)
3. Risk of damage (flying debris when following another vehicle, hitting mud or snow, etc.)

I attached two photographs of each proposed location, for evaluation.

Location 1 would be the standard / classic one.
Location 2 looks neat (the light can go even deeper inside when its screw is removed), but is it too low for driving lights?
Location 3 would require removing the plastic net in the bumper and installing the light inside the hole. Would it be too low and would the lights be too far apart?
Location 4 would have the lights protruding in front of the bumper.

Opinions please?

P.S.: Here is a picture of my Jimny without the front bumper (ignore the red arrow).
My Jimny is a DDiS diesel edition.

The arrangement of the items behind the bumper appears to be different than in a petrol Jimny. Am I correct?

I like the idea of fitting them in the space below the headlamps. Looks cool and
will not restrict any airflow to the radiator. B)

Not a great picture, but it's all I have at the moment ;)
This is how I fitted mine at the weekend :

[IMG

2 identical pieces of 2mm aluminium plate, 600mm x 50mm, mounted above and below the bumper surface and bolted together with M8 x20mm mushroom headed stainless steel allen bolts.

Solid as a rock, no vibration or beam distortion when moving. HTH :)

Thanks, Dan...worked out quite well, I thought
When the weather improves I'll take them off again and radius the corners, won't look quite so boxy...didn't have time at weekend, just wanted them on, I'll wire them up this weekend ;)
