Driving lights, how to mount them? was created by foxshooter
Whats the best way to fit driving lights to a 54 plate Jimny?

I dont really fancy a roof rail but would prefer the traditional between the headlights positioning.

However there doesnt seem to be anywhere substantial to mount them, theres noting under the bumper trim to bolt into either it appears.

Any suggestions?

I have been looking into this ... initially had a set of 4 spots mounted to a roofrack, but this wasnt ideal and I smashed a few on green lanes.

I have found 2 roof mounted light pods, and, a discussion with a guy off difflock, it looks quite funky.

There was a pod with small flat lights as opposed to the round ones but I cannot find it at present.

Chap i saw had some mounted on the bumper, big washer on top and a sheet of metal underneath to reinforce.
Not great pictures but all i've got of it:

I've seen some GV ones too that looked like a factory option with a small rubber "bush" between the lamp and bumper.

Another solution i've found is a bracket that goes behind the number plate with a bar above to mount the lights then the number plate goes back on top in its normal position.

Thats the sort of thing, I hadnt thought of bodging something behind the bumper trim to thicken things up a bit.

The number plate bracket sounds a good idea too, I wonder where I'd find something like that or was it a homebrew solution?

The number plate effort wasn't homemade i found it while looking for something else jimny related. IIRC it was on a kiwi/oz site though. I've googled it briefly but no joy yet.

It would be easy to make up but i don't thing it looks as nice as lights higher up on the bumper.
