Future of the Jimny

This is our second Jimny the first 1999 to 2007 and the second 2007 to now.

Each time we are in the Suzuki Dealer we ask how long they will be on the market. The dealers advise that Suzuki is not that communicative on the subject.

When we bought the 2007 car they were not selling well and were £2000 below list and the dealers were less than interested in them.

Now that money is tight things have changed. In the North East of Scotland they have gone up in price second hand and they are in short supply new.

Has anyone heard anything about the future of the car that was available in the UK from 98 and apart from a replacement engine and drivetrain has not changed much!

Apart from the Morgan it appears to have the longest shelf life of any modern car.

Not heard anything about the Jimny, however if the Sj is anything to go by, they have big markets in the Med and the east, and also a big demand.

Just wish Suzuki would listen to their customers and introduce the Diesel into the UK

I wish they'd introduced the diesel into the UK in 1998 so we could all buy bargain old ones now for off roading without spending a fortune nd having the waterproofing that comes with them - not that the petrol one is bad with water from what I read - not got the bottle to try deep water but I've seen you have Ooky!

I'd heard there was no intention to discontinue any time soon. They're still very popular. "As long as people keep buying them Suzuki will keep selling them" someone said.

I have a 2001 Jimny and I love it. Soon I have to buy a new 4WD car. Sadly Suzuki do not sell Jimny anymore in Sweden, probably because it failed the Moosetest, lacks ESP etc and poor sales?

So I really hopes that Suzuki comes out with a cool Jimny that is really offroad and have ESP and other safety gadgets and that Suzuki will sell them in Sweden.

The Jimny should have better ground clearance and easier to fit larger tires and have better options like lock diffs from factory.

Almost in all Jimny advertisment there are young girls driving around town, is this the right group for a 4wd, do I have a girl car. Suzuki should make better advertisment with Jimny as a cool rough 4wd car

Or ells I will probably buy a 2 door wrangler but I find the motor to be old and not so good for the environment and my wallet.

There are not so many 2 door real 4WD cars out there. The Defender is nice but lacks airbags and have diesel and I think that it cost about 1000 euro a year for diesel taxes in Sweden and it is quit expensive.

There are not many small 2 door real 4wd out there, strange if You consider the environment, bad economy and not all have alot of children.

The new Grand vitara is nice but does not look like a true 4WD, looks to soft and the 2011 version do not have a wheel in back and have IFS.

I Have to wait for a new Jimny or a wrangler with a newer motor.

Personally I don't want any electronic driver aids as they will hamper me off road. I also don't care if my car's base model does not pass the relvant roll over tests as they are for people who drive every car like a GTI with no regards to the type of car they are in.

I would only mod it and make it even less able to pass the tests!

I agree that there are not many options out there now though. The Defender has the ford Puma engine in it which is controlled by too much electricery and Jeeps are OK but not my bag and they all cost a fortune.

You can't buy a Jimny without ABS now either, so I wouldn't buy a new one for offroading anyway, leaving little point for me to own one.

So the older Jimny rules the roost for me but the future does not seem bright for the home mechanic off roader in another 20 odd years!

Jimny's will be like SJ's are now!
