media-blasting axles ? was created by reaper
Hi guys
Im wanting to tidy my axles and rather than just a bit of paint would like to remove them and media blast all the kanck and crud rust etc off before a repaint
Sooooo
What is best media
Will i need to mask certain parts to stop dust getting in
Or is a full strip down better (diffs out etc)

Full strip down, then send the cases to someone who will dip them to remove paint and rust.

Don't try grit blasting them assembled. Suzuki can't keep mud out of them never mind grit blown with compressed air.

You can clean them up with wire brushes etc yourself but it is very hard work.

I would wirebrush the diff casings clean before dismantling the axle, so as to keep rubbish from getting into the gears.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

What would you guys do to prepare axles for off roading (paintwise etc) after youve media blasted them.
Modded SJ axles I got from Gazwell have already got full monty of strengthening on them, gonna make it more difficult to clean em up, bit worried about removing arbs and driveshafts and getting em back together with my limited skills. Do you guys think its a big job.

I just daub everything with black Aldi Metal paint, although to do a proper job you might like to take a trip to a paint factors and invest in primer and decent top coat, Rustoleum are the paints used by the building trade: and some of their outdoor structures can be guaranteed for as long as 3 months :) :)

Axles are easy enough to strip down, the air locker ought to be attached to the diff and you won't even notice it when you pull the diff out.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)
