There is also a possibility that the wheel bearings have some play, and are in need of tightening.

Jack up front wheel, grab top and bottom, if there's play it's the king pins repeat with the other wheel.If there's play when you try by holding the wheel right and left (front and back) that would be track rod end or maybe the steering box, that's the one you're likely to be feeling through the steering wheel
I don't know how the MOT man could say it was play in the CV, I too think he meant King pins.

Suzuki want just under £600 for both sides so it looks like its the 2nd hand route.

Camskill sell the joint, iirc they're about £60ish. Need to cut the old one off as there's a hidden circlip.

guna have a try this week jacking it up feeling for play etc, what can be done if its the steering box thanks
