I drove to Manchester on Sunday and I have noticed having the K&N has changed the sound a little.
It now makes a raspy sound as I change gear and is slightly louder although the KAP box already sounded louder.

Also to point out, My jim used to do 200 miles to £40 and it did 220 and still had some life left after fitting the new filter so thumbs up to K&N.

If you havent got one already, GET ONE!!:)

If your not going off road the induction kit should be ok . But you say your getting a snorkel so you must be doing some sort of off roading . So the induction kit wouldn't be any good if you are doing off road as it will be to exposed to water and mud . Your better off getting the K&N panel air filter no fuss just take standard air filter out and replace with the K&N . So there's no relocating the air flow meter then to

I fitted a K&N filter to my Ibiza and I noticed that at higher revs it was quieter than the standard filter. I also noticed that the car was a little bit nippier too.

However I have a friend with a 54 plate Defender who said that the oil off the filter leaked down and caused her £80 of damage so I'm reluctant to change to a K&N filter on my Jimny.

Anyone had any bad experiences with a K&N or is my mate a one off?

Why was there oil on the filter?

As regards to ever having that happen, I cant vouch for a jimny as I have only had mine on a couple of weeks but I have had them on a couple of cars in the past and never had a problem but this might boil down to this oil thing!

Because they are oiled filters, when you clean them you have to re-oil them. Some oil comes out as air flows through them (I suspect they don't drip) its quite a well known problem and effects some cars worse than others. Its been covered on here before too.

Looking at the various builds that people here have, most appear to have some form of K&N filter. They are oiled, this is to help catch crap that is sucked in. You're supposed to clean and re-oil them every 50k, I didn't make it to 50k in my previous car before buying the beloved Jimny!

I've had a few K&N filters on bikes and cars over the years and after oiling the filter I would leave it to sit on a newspaper.

I also used dry cleaning fluid to wash the filter.
