Horses for courses.
IMHO a 90 is the only choice for challenges - i presume you're heading that way. The mods available for them aimed squarely at competition is massive. Yes they have disadvantages weight, size etc...but all that can be insignificant when you consider the choice of suspension packages, tyre choice, body mods(tubular wings, proper tray back) availability of spares, simplicity of repairs "in the field". One overbearing factor in a landy's favour. You bust a half shaft and 5 bolts has it out - without removing the wheel, we all know the issues involved with the dear little jimny!
If the majority of the field are running Land Rover based vehicles and you bust something, someone will be able to help you out if you dont have one to had. If you're the only zuk or in a minority you will be lucky to get that.
I obviously love my zuk but sit firmly on the fence. I like how you can show up really sorted trucks in a near on standard jimny but for full on hardcore use i'd be leaning towards a 90 for the availability of tried and tested mods essentially.
Good luck with your new project.

it was a hard choice as i like suzuki but like you said i would only have a chance at a challenge if i had a 90. its been easier to work on so far past all the pop rivits. it was an ex challenge truck in a state with all the rear tub bent. but iv had a week on it and its now a trayback with challenge wings.

To be honest we all really have a modernised 1957 Mk1 88" Land Rover, Suzuki just simply copied it made it better and then called it a Jimny. The land rover also had a 4x4 part-time system (rear permanent, front engaged manually in off-road conditions). The Jimny is just slightly bigger with a 88.5" wheelbase. Enjoy your Defender and keep in touch

Looks as good as a Land Rover can! Looks like you don't hang about either, I've had my jimny over a year, used it once at a playday and the rest of the time it's been in bits.

When we were at Silverdale at the weekend, a guy in a Defender had 3 attempts at getting up a fairly steep section. When he eventually got to the top he shouted. " I need one of those Suzuki Jimny things!"
I had to check with people around me to make sure i heard him right
