Trolley Jack - Will this do?

Hi there,

Looking to get a trolley jack and some axle stands for the standard jimny so I can get underneath properly. I wondered if this would do Halfords 5 Piece Lifting Kit . Or would I need something that would lift the jimny higher?

I have the same bits but bought separately. The jack is fine when used with the axle stands as the main support.

The Halfrauds jack just wont go high enough and I think they are pants

I deal with these guys a'lot as I work for the one of the Leading garage equipment companies.
They would be able to supply a fully serviced Industrial trolley jack for not to many pennies, this is what I did, and a got a used quality jack with incredible lift height. Just look at the size of the saddles on the cheap jacks! I hate them.

Had that Halfords set for a few years, never let me down!

Hi mate i think the halfords one is good for the price especially when they put them on special offer. They don't go as high as i would like so i use a block off wood to get the extra height.If i need to do anything under neith i just lift it with a FLT at work.

I have the jack to keep in the car just in case I need to change a wheel. Wouldn't want to get under it though. My 'garage' jack is one of these........

Any trolley jack got to be better than the one that comes with the jimny,so if down to money go for the halfords one.
As supergaz said if they got one with a bigger saddle go for that one.

I also have the 5 piece kit from Halfords as their Jacks have lasted me for years in the past.

I would buy their bigger jack suitable for vans and 4x4's and a set of axle stands as it just does the job and lifts my Jimny with bigger tyres without messing about with blocks of wood.

I steer clear of Clarke Jacks as offered by Machine Mart despite their VAT free deals as I've had 2 break now just outside of warranty annoyingly!

On the first the metal work deformed where the handle pushes down and once bent was weak. The other leaked. They were 2 different types and were not cheap.

My first Halfords one has just let me down after 12 years of regular use. So I'm happy with that and went straight out and bought another in that set. I also have the bigger one.

I have both as the big one is too big for some normal cars. Not because I'm greedy or have a Jack fetish!

I make do with a £10 trolley jack and a couple of bricks in conjunction with a pair of £10 aldi axle stands.

£50 for all the kit doesn't seem too bad.

TIP:

Get the hydraulic bottle jack out of a discovery or range rover. Expect to pay £10 + VAT.

It is a 2 piece piston with a half moon saddle that locates beneath the axle tube. Used to go up high enough to get the oversize tyres off the 110 without bits of wood etc, and go low enough to get underneath with a flat tyre.
