The rocklobster is much lower. This gearing from jimnybits is hardly what you'd call a crawler gear

Can you fit a rocklobster box to an electronic selector jimny? Or would I need to have the second shifter through the floor?

You would need to have the second shifter through the floor, but every electronic Jimny I have seen so far has a plate screwed down over the hole so you can simply remove the plate.
You also have to fool the electronics if you dont want the warning lights on the dashboard to come on, there are a couple of wires you need to cross-connect.

Thanks for the swift response Martin. It's a question I've been mulling over for a while as I do find the normal low box is to high when I'm going down steep stuff. Time to start saving the pennies up.

To move first gear to where third gear is currently is roughly what a rock lobster conversion does.

Hi there, I'm busy putting a converted SJ413 box in my Jimny. Can you tell me how to connect the wires so the front hubs still lock with the buttons.
And what do I do with the speedo?

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

On a lever operated transfer box, the blue/black wire that went to the gearbox switch needs to earth through the 4wd switch in the SJ box. If your car was a push button operated one, I don't have a clue I'm afraid.
To get the speedo to work you have to buy/make a kit to mount a cog and the speed sensor from the original gearbox to the output shaft of the transfer box. Have a search on the 'net for terms like "rocklobster" and "jimny"

We took the 4wd sensor out of the old box and put it in the new box, plugged it in and the hubs click in automatically when you put the vehicle in 4wd. The plugs for the auto switches are still an issue and the engine light and 4wd lights on the dash flash all the time. Still need to make a pick-up for the speedometer.
My biggest problem is the fact that I now have a 40% reduction in fifth gear high range. I will have to replace the gearbox and/or change the diff ratio. The newer Jimny's have a different ratio on the transfer box than the old SJ's so the conversion messes your gear ratios.
The new Jimny has a 1:1 ratio on the 5th gear while the older ones has an overdrive. My bad for not picking that up before starting with the conversion.
Anybody know what is the best way to fix the ratio now.
