This is what happens when a buzzard decides to fly low over the dual carriage way and meets a Jimny doing 70... It broke straight through, nowt like glass shrapnel firing around inside the car to wake you up in the morning  Especially with an arse in a BMW hard up your back bumper cause being passed by a Jimny dented his ego, meaning the instinct to brake when your being peppered with glass splinters would have ended in much more damage :woohoo:

Now fixed, but has anyone else had a new screen in and how well was it fitted ? Autogl*ss changed it and they've used a universal seal - The screen now moves when you push it ( in and out ) by a good couple of mil and the scuttle panel trim has a gap of 1 - 2 mm from one side to the other at the bottom of the screen as the new seal doesn't let it fit correctly. We won't mention the left hand interior A post trim being off where it fits to the dash, the paint damage, scratches from screw drivers being used as leavers, phone charger cable that came out through the right hand B post being left hanging at the side of the dash etc. just now...

also if it is bonded in then it will take 6-8 hours for the sealer to set - before that the screen will move if you push it and may also cause it not to bond properly and leak - they usually tell you not to drive it until several hours have passed

however I agree they should not have scratched or damaged it.

lucky its not a bmw mini as you would have had to have 2 new windscreen trims at £50+ each as they usually break when the screen is being removed

Had a screen re-placed on an S-Max, after the heating elements decided not to work (warrenty claim ;) )

AutoGlass fitted it using sticky black sealant... which when the screen was pushed onto seeped out and easily visible from inside the car. They then broke the corner off the screen and didn't mention it. They were called back and replaced it again... again the black sealant was visible but lived with it.

They also used their resin on a chip on my Fiesta, fine from outside, but rubbish from in. But the chip never cracked so no biggy.

Had them come back today - the screens coming out and being refitted. When it was checked again it still flexed at the top, apparently on the seal. Apparently there's two different seals ( different maker presumably ) one's good and to quote the fitter, the other one's "s**t". No points for guessing which one I had fitted to mine....

Hopefully it'll be OK when it's refitted. In fairness to them, there was no argument about getting it done but if anyone else gets a screen in would seem it's worth having a good look at the rubber that it's fitted with in case it's the crap one.

bad luck, glad you're nearly sorted, but nice to have a new scratch-free screen :)

are you sure the buzzard wasn't sitting in a tree at the time,
did you see if happening in slow motion or did you need to go back home and change your pants

Frankly if someone working on my car scratched it I'd be claming for a respray of the area from them as well as a refund of the work they'd done. Then I'd take it to a proper repair shop and get it done correctly at the same time as the re-spray.
