Hi All,
I have a 2010 jimny with 10,000 mile & was wondering if the Transfer box drivechain is driving when in 2wd.I ask as i sometimes get the "Brrrrt noise when pulling away and all forums suggest the chain is slipping. The main stealer says it is nothing to worry about, but i cant trust them.
Thanks

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

If the chain is jumping the sprockets, the BRRRTTT noise is very loud, pedestrians would be looking at you.
If it is very loud the dealer should explain what nothing is, or at least demonstrate that a new one does it too.
FWIW, I doub't the chain has gone after only 10,000 miles, they are good for 150,000 if the oil is kept clean.

Wanderer has advised the problem first arose, occasionally giving the BRTTT when pulling away in 2wd on hills, however, now it "sometimes" does it even on the flat,
only happens in 1st gear,
not very loud but all inside hear it
only happens for a second, maybe less.
Any ideas

I have had two chains slip over time (on modified transfer boxes).
The BRRT noise is loud and can be felt through the transfer lever.
It starts off only happening in 1st on a slope, then 1st and 2nd, then 1st and 2nd on the level.
The more revs, the more it happens.

Is it more of a BRRRRRRRRRR as the whole back of the car vibrates? This happens below 1500rpm on most jimnys. Feels like the back axle is falling off.
I would take the thing back and insist that someone comes out in the car to hear it.
Could be something loose, like a heatshield on the exhaust.
