Thanks for the replies. This is my second attempt at sending this message, I think I pressed cancel last time. Well, I have a cd service manual now and noted a diagram about sensors which Martin posted once. -In the Engine & Emission control system/ Ignition system sections. Well there are a lot of sensors and some harder to get at it it seems. Which would be relevant sensor connector terminals to start to clean considering the problem of the engine 'missing' at speed? I have read a bit but there is a fair bit to it.Thanks again and cheers!

I'd suggest doing the simplest things first. Pull out the spark plugs and check for fouling, clean and re-gap. Make sure that you tighten up as per the manual (about 1/2 turn from 1st resistance) and then check that the connections are all firm. I always spray all connections with Inox to ensure good connections and easy removal next time. Disconnect wiring to sensors one at a time and clean with steel wool then spray and reconnect. Give your car a run and see how it goes, you might not have to pull sensors out.

Thanks for the useful info Ian. Spark plugs have been checked. Do you need to disconnect the negative terminal from the battery before disconnecting the wiring ie. connectors, from the sensors? Just wondering. A friend unclipped a couple of connections to show me how easy they were to pull off, but we didn't disconnect the battery terminal then. Thanks again.

cam and crank sensors are the usual suspects

my last jimny did it once warm, revs bounce / misses; let it cool down abit and away it went fine
