Starts and runs fine, pulls happy enough, and no probs at all, however it gives a puff of blue smoke when first started. It does not smoke at all when driving, even when bein pushed, so assume there must be a very minor leak which pools in a cylinder when not in use, any ideas what it could be? Very early signs of head gasket failure? Rocker cover gasket failure or worn piston rings?
Any help greatly received!

Came to the conclusion it is valve guide oil seals.
Mine has done 117,000 and does exactly the same, general opinion, just keep truckin'.
Short term cure ?? Just 'blip' the throttle as you turn the ignition off, works on mine, almost no smoke on re-start next morning.
All the best, Bry D.

Bry D - is yours still not smoking 8 months after using that oil stop leak stuff? Or has it started again?
I do not like the idea of starting the car and it puffing out blue smoke, but am loathed to disturb the head as there are no other head gasket problems as yet.
Cheers

Just don't look behind when you start it up
If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

Could anyone explain why, when I park my Jimny pointing slightly down hill overnight, it does not smoke on start up. If I park uphill, then it is quite a sizeable cloud of blue smoke!
A logical explanation anywhere?!

Very interesting...sounds plausible. I did think it would be tricky to do with the head on, so am planning on living with it until a later date. Just wandered whether it could have been something else as it only happens when parked up hill.Az1987 wrote: It's most likely because it's only the seals on cylinder 3 or 4 that are leaking and it's almost impossible to change the seals with the head on because you have to compress the valve springs and remove them which you can't do with out holding the underside of the valve (the part inside the cylinder).
