by lurching back and forth.in high revs

might have something to do with............

recently fixed a seized brake calliper

and the exhaust has a strange whistling sound coming from a box under about the gear stick sounds a bit like a turbo sounds quite cool but it ain't right

Most likely the catalyst is blocked, that is the first exhaust box nearest the engine.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

My thoughts are with the cat being blocked also - the brake wouldn't cause this. I recently got a new cat fitted for £155 all in. I couldn't buy one for less than £200 when I rang around so I left them with the unenviable task of getting the bolts undone as they could heat them and I can't.

x3 on it being the cat

i had one go on a rs2000 few years ago & it started by doing the same sort of thing as your jimny but like you i did not know what was wrong at first so kept driving it & then it just got worse & worse.

either get a replacement asap or if funds are not available right now take the cat off cut it open & take the insides out of it weld it back up & refit until you got funds for a replacement

Yep another for the cat, i had one collapse on my old mondeo. Couldn't get it above 30mph, would idle fine but as soon as the gasses built up in the exhaust it lost all power. They collapse inside and can get so hot that they weld themselves together apparently, ulitmately blocking the pipe.

Black Jimny's don't get stuck!
