Finished off the winch today...
Two 5 metre coils of 40mm2 winch cable...
Down the driver's side of the chassis...
And the remote wired up first, and the (Dyneema Tom
) synthetic rope spooled onto the drum...
Then the rear winch aircraft isolator switch first, that has to be on before the winch rocker switch will work, were both wired up...
The wiring bridge across the engine bay... so, from right to left there is the isolator switch for the front winch, then a socket for a wander lead to control the front winch (must put the cap on that), then there's the recently installed isolator switch for the rear winch, then the isolator switch between that and the split charge relay pot is a manual link between the two batteries, so that I can over-ride the split charge system if I ever need to - to either winch with engine (alternator) power, or, if the engine battery is ever flat, I can "jump start" the engine using the winch battery. (The T-Max split charge system has a button to do this, but I found if the engine battery was completely dead there is no power to run the T-Max system and it won't manually link... but this big switch will).
Engine battery and Odyssey PC1200 winch battery, T-Max split charge system, and the manual link with a big isolator switch mentioned above and proper 40mm2 cable again, if I need to winch with alternator/engine power if the Odyssey winch battery is ever depleted (last resort!).
ALL DONE! Twin winches... should be able to get out of anywhere now... IF it ever gets stuck... rear air locker and a front LSD and a Rockwatt Rocklobster box should mean it shouldn't ever really need the winches much, but they're there... just in case!
Only things left in the build blog I'd really like to do are -
* ORA Sill Bars still to assemble, powdercoat and fit
* Tree-slider-cum-roofrack to assemble when the component pieces arrive from the ORA
* Still got a JimnyBits fuel tank guard to fit
Then, maybe/sometime later -
* I've got a JimnyBits rear disc conversion kit to fit one day, when I collect together all the other parts
* I've got to add the gearbox breather hose when I can physically get to it...
* I would really like new tyres, rather than running remoulds... sometime...
SO, the build thread will slow down a bit now, and I'll stop bugging you all with constant updates :woohoo:
