We love our allotment, and as vegetarians it gives us a large proportion of our food - especially as we have two big chest freezers to keep stuff and spread it out over the winter. We've just finished cutting asparagus and have just pulled out the broad bean plants (planted last autumn). We've had oodles of broad beans and have plenty in the freezers. New potatoes are really nice - Rocket, not cropping heavily but they are a good size and tasty. We have a fruit cage and are now eating so many strawberries that I think I'll turn red and seedy soon. Then there will be the raspberries. Mmmmmm.
Only trouble is the weeds. And the watering - we don't have water laid on so I have loads of butts around the shed and water catcher.
Allotments rock. And now I have my Jimny I won't have to barrow the sacks of compost up there, I can drive them up the green lane to get there. Magic.

Hi Fizzy, the allotment sounds good, home grown fresh asparagus must be lovely
I've only got a vertical 1/2 freezer so end up giving loads away
strawberry's just starting to crop up in the NE, no beans yet but mange tout ready for the weekend
can't imagine not having mains water, I've x2 200lt butts that only last a couple of days in sunny conditions and it takes 4 ever to water with cans.
